There’s not much better than a fête that makes people smile the moment they walk in the door! A really beautiful, colorful party, one where the table is prepared, the drinks are cold, and the whole experience just embodies the word “celebration”, is one of my favorite things in the world.
Whatever festivity you have in mind – a birthday, a girls’ night, or just an excuse to get your favorite people together, these colorful party theme ideas will leave you feeling SO inspired. I’ve rounded up ten of my favorite themes, ranging from maximalist and extra to a bit softer and sophisticated – each one featuring amazing decor ideas, a cocktail pairing, & food and dessert suggestions to get you started with your party planning. I hope you’re as excited as I am!
Oh, and because every colorful party deserves an equally colorful drink, this colorful cocktails post for has a comprehensive roundup of gorgeous drinks to perfectly match your theme.
You can find all of these themes collected on my Pinterest boards, which I will link in each theme throughout the post!
PARTY PLANNING NOTE: The pins incorporated throughout these themes are meant to help inspire your planning. Your party does not need to look Pinterest perfect! I’ve also tried to include accessible ideas that you can create at home — variations of the theme. Both options are always helpful to me in my planning, as I like to see what a more styled theme looks like, as well as more realistic photos and ideas, which offers me a sense of what I can attempt to pull-off at my home.
Maximalist Color Party Theme: “Extra”
If your party (or life) philosophy is “more is more,” then this one’s for you! The “Extra” party theme is loud and layered, while remaining tasteful. Think, cheerful color on color, pattern(s) that speak to you, dotted with fresh florals, all coming together with intention to create a table that makes guests stop to take a photo. Oh, rhinestones and sequins are welcome!
You can take a bolder approach to this, as you will see in the first few pins, or a more whimsical, lighter approach based on your personal taste. Love this!
INSPIRATION INCOMING:

Garden Party in Full Bloom
A garden party is all about the florals, of course! I find it easiest to center a garden party around what’s in season. In spring, focusing on pastel florals, transitioning into bolder shades for summer, and autumnal hues for fall. Or, you can plan your garden party around your favorite flowers.
If the weather fits, have your party outside, in the garden, on the patio, or the porch! If not, just set up your place with fresh florals and colors. If florals are hard to come by, shift to potted herbs and pop in flowers where you can.
INSPIRATION INCOMING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS DECOR THEME AT HOME:
Tablescape: Play with flowers that are accessible to you in all clear, or all colorful, or all mismatched vases, and incorporate greenery. If herbs are what you have access to, line potted herbs down the middle of the table and incorporate color with citrus halves, piles of cherries, and bunches of grapes. You could lean into a crisp white tablecloth or runner, or go with a block print or patterned tablecloth to up the color factor.
Lighting: Get creative! I absolutely love the look of tapers everywhere, and it brought me joy to see those lilac tapers in the above pin, nestled into a baguette — this is just so fun! If you have string lights, make sure your bulbs are clean and working (they gather a lot of dust and dirt outside), and consider mixing the colors based on the hues of the party. Vintage brass candlestick holders (often found pretty easily at thrift stores) with colored tapers would be so perfect — a mix of that garden party vintage feel, with modern, whimsical touches.
Theme variations:
- A flower market theme is really trendy right now and just so pleasant — wrap flower bundles with kraft paper, use crates and buckets as vessels, and keep the palette fresh and varied. Add fresh baked goods and foods that are “grab and go” at the market.
- Disco garden party: another trendy, popular spin (literally!), add a disco ball over the table and/or pop in little ones throughout the decor. This adds another modern element, a gorgeous play on light, and adds a playful feel.
GARDEN PARTY IN FULL BLOOM: WHAT TO SHOP
- This chiffon floral embroidered table runner – swoon!
- Whimsical tissue paper flowers or paper flowers
- Rifle Paper Garden Party paper straws
- Clear bud vases
- Pastel twisted tapers
COCKTAIL SUGGESTIONS:
There are so many options here! Lean into anything floral and pretty:

Italian Summer Party Theme
This theme features an abundance of gorgeous lemons (lemon trees, even!), terracotta or rustic vases, the smell of basil in the air, and a cold glass of something sparkling. An Italian Summer party is both laid back, elevated, and accessible while being such a sensory, joyful way to entertain! The palette here, as you may have guessed, is sunny: featuring warm yellows, deep terracottas, dusty and bold blues, soft greens and even pinks, and that beautiful washed-out linen look.
INSPIRATION INCOMING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS DECOR THEME AT HOME:
Lean into Terracotta or rustic pots filled with herbs lining the middle of the table, or clustered throughout. Mismatch Italian-style ceramic dishes, add bowls of olives (branches too, if you can get your hands on them!), and soft candlelight.
Tablescape: A simple linen runner down the middle of the table (or a scalloped one with color if you want to go that route), scattered with pots of herbs, tall, fresh flowers, various sized and colored heirloom tomatoes (on the vine, if possible!), and halved lemons. If it works for your vibe, add bowls of fresh olives as well. Bottles of wine are a welcome touch!
Fun touches: A hand-lettered menu card on the table will add a whimsical and personalized touch. Add tapered candles which are already lit as guests are arriving. Incorporate scallops where you can (plates, napkins, chargers). Ultimately, go for a layered, “we eat outside every night in the summer” vibe.

Butter Me Up Party Theme
The Butter Yellow trend has been quietly taking over Pinterest and it’s not hard to see why! Soft, warm, and just sooo optimistic, the Butter Me Up party palette is all about creamy yellows, warm whites, honey tones, and the occasional pop of terracotta or sage. It’s cozy and chic at the same time, which is a party everyone would enjoy! Also, butter.
INSPIRATION INCOMING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS DECOR THEME AT HOME:
For this cheerful theme, keep it warm and layered, as it this one is all about that soft yellow feeling bringing in the cheer year round.
Tablescape: Think tall tapers (cream, white, yellow tones), linen napkins, cream-and-yellow florals (ranunculus, sunflowers, chamomile) and soft rattan or woven accents. Add butter everywhere! Butter in molds, or in “piles” in vintage or silver dishes. Use vintage silver spreaders, or use more modern, colorful spreaders depending on the guests of honor and their preference.
Decor tips: Incorporate SO MUCH yellow, hints of blue, and consider adding some green, or deeper browns, even red, to weigh down the yellow a bit. You can incorporate these colors within menu cards, flowers, tapers, napkins, or cheerful garlands. We obviously want this soft yellow (in various hues is fine) to be the star of the show, but use these other hues and even patterns, as supporters.
COCKTAIL PAIRING:
Serving golden & gorgeous goodness:

- Lemon curd and brie crostini (add blackberries for more color)

This one is perfect any occasion that deserves a little floral infused aesthetic dramaaaa!
INSPIRATION INCOMING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS DECOR THEME AT HOME:

Coastal Grandmother / Nancy Meyers Dinner Party Vibes
Think: hydrangeas on the table, linen napkins that have been washed a hundred times, a good wedge salad, and the kind of easy, warm entertaining that makes everyone feel at home. This is the energy we’re going for here. The Coastal Grandmother and Nancy Meyers aesthetic is having a serious moment, and for very good reason: it’s beautiful, timeless, and aspirational, but somehow in a livable way.
INSPIRATION INCOMING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS DECOR THEME AT HOME:
For this theme, we want all the navy, white, and soft blue with pops of red or coral. The goal is “effortlessly beautiful”, as if this came together easily (I hope it did!), with an ease that will make your guests want to stay for hours.
Tablescape: Hydrangeas in white or blue are essentially mandatory. Add wicker and rattan accents, navy striped or checked, solid or block print patterned linens, with white plates (maybe with simple blue trim?) , and an abundance of candles. Tapers work here, and you could also use tea lights in simple glass votives. Clear, crisp glassware is ideal here.
Decor touches: Add magical lighting in the form of string lights or classic lanterns, as well as via candlelight. You can also add touch lamps in strategic areas where touches of warm light would be helpful. Silver wine buckets filled with ice and chilled wine round out this party theme perfectly. Cheers!
COCKTAIL PAIRING:
Have wine & sparkling on hand, and lean into the coastal theme with these lovelies:
- Classic gin and tonic with cucumber and lime
- Blueberry lemonade gin fizz
- Cape Cod (vodka + cranberry + lime)
FOOD & DESSERT SUGGESTIONS:
Food:
- A beautiful wedge salad with blue cheese and cherry tomatoes & homemade dressing (if you have time)
- Lobster rolls, shrimp cocktail, or oysters if you can splurge
- New England clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls for a fall or winter gathering
Dessert: Blueberry pie or crisp, lemon bars, or a simple pavlova with fresh berries & whipped cream. These are all very, “I found this fresh fruit at the farmstand on the way home.”
Pavlova with berries & homemade whipped cream is my birthday request! My mom was kind enough to make this for me at my Aperol Spritz birthday party. It was such a hit! I almost forgot to bring it out — I remembered when only a handful of guests were still around. It was a really fun moment.

Cherry (& Caviar) Party Theme
Cherries are having such a moment! You’ve likely seen them everywhere on Pinterest, TikTok, in fashion, and in food content. For this reason, this party theme leans alllll the way in. Bold, graphic, and even a little glamorous, the Cherry (& Caviar) theme pairs the playful sweetness of cherry red with the luxury of a caviar twist, if desired.
INSPIRATION INCOMING:
TO ACHIEVE THIS DECOR THEME AT HOME:
For this luxurious party, we are focusing on deep cherry red, glossy black, and hints of gold. If you want to soften things a bit, incorporate cream, soft pink, and hints of green. You can see from the inspiratino above that this party theme can be customized to the guest of honor’s preferences.
Tablescape: Think red tapered candles, black plates or chargers, cherry-printed napkins or linens, and a centerpiece of actual cherries in a beautiful bowl. Add a playful touch with scattered cherry confetti or cherry-shaped picks. Alternatively, you can use a deep red striped runner or tablecloth, with pops of green in the serving dishes, florals, and tapers.
Decor touches: Go with bold, deep, graphic feels: find real, long stemmed cherries and stack them in bowls, or pile them on the table. Add deep red tapers along the table, and if you’d like to add more color, include cream, deep green, and blush pink. Use clear glass coupes or flutes to accent the deep red hues. Add sweet little bows to each glass, tied with a cherry charm and initial charm to mark each guest’s glass.
COCKTAIL PAIRING:
Anything deep, rich, red & ideally cherry:
- Cherry Bourbon Smash

- Dark Cherry Spritz
FOOD & DESSERT SUGGESTIONS:
Food:

- Cherry and brie crostini with a drizzle of hot honey
- Blini with crème fraîche and caviar (or smoked salmon if you want to keep it accessible)
Dessert: Let’s go completely on theme with this: Black Forest cake, cherry clafoutis, or chocolate-dipped cherries.
How to Choose Your Colorful Party Theme
With so many fun party themes, it’s nearly torturous to pick just one! Here are a few questions that I also use to help narrow it down:
What’s the season? The Spritz Party and Garden Party themes are perfect for spring and summer. Italian Summer and French Riviera also thrive in warm weather. Bridgerton, Coastal Grandmother, Butter Me Up, and Cherries & Caviar work beautifully year-round or indoors in cooler months.
Who’s coming? A Bridgerton bridal shower hits differently than a Palm Beach girls’ night. Both are amazing, but the vibes are different. Let your guest list and party purpose guide the energy level.
Indoor or outdoor? The Garden Party, French Riviera, Palm Beach, Coastal Grandmother, and Italian Summer themes are especially beautiful outside, though will also work well inside. The Cherry & Caviar and Butter Me Up themes are great options for an indoor celebration, while the Bridgerton theme works well both indoors and out.
How much do you want to spend on decor? Some of these themes (Maximalist, Bridgerton) invite you to go all out. Others (Coastal Grandmother, Butter Me Up, Italian Summer) look polished with just some foundational pieces. Really, considering DIY options, what you already have on hand or can purchase at thrift stores, you can choose your price range.
