Soccer Themed Presents: Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best soccer themed presents for World Cup 2026?

For World Cup 2026, the most fun and festive soccer themed presents include game-day drinkware (like a World Cup glass or soccer ball ice mold), wearable fan gear like a dad cap or Sambas, and novelty items like Panini World Cup sticker trading cards or a themed game, like FIFA World Cup Monopoly Deal. You want to be sure to match the gift to the person’s soccer involvement: a player, a supportive parent, or a passionate fan!

What are unique gifts for soccer players?

Some of the most unique gifts for soccer players are both personal and useful. A custom soccer ball keychain (especially monogrammed), the soccer ball training dice for fun solo skills practice, or a create-your-own soccer ball for younger players are all great options. For teens or adults, a pair of Sambas in a bold colorway always hits the right note — generous, classic (while still trendy), and fun in the form of color & pattern.

What do you get a soccer mom as a gift?

Soccer moms appreciate gifts that are stylish, with bonus points if they are functional on the sidelines. A custom embroidered soccer mom sweatshirt (personalized with her player’s name and number) is always an easy win, as are fun accessories like a trendy soccer ball headband or an adorable Game Day claw clip, dainty soccer ball earrings, or a Kendra Scott soccer ball necklace. A soccer themed coffee table book is a great option too, if she loves the sport beyond just cheering from the sidelines!

What are good soccer gifts for kids?

For kids who love soccer, combine their favorite sport with a fun novelty item. Depending on their age, Panini World Cup 2026 sticker trading cards & album, a fleece soccer ball blanket, a smiley soccer ball stuffie, soccer ball string lights for their bedroom, or the soccer keychain bead kit (great for crafty kids) are all wonderful options. For something interactive, the create-your-own soccer ball is a huge hit with younger players or soccer skills training dice.

What is a good soccer themed present under $25?

There are so many wonderful soccer themed gifts under $25! The soccer ball ice molds, hair accessories like novelty claw clips, a dad cap, soccer ball training dice, the giant inflatable soccer beach ball, and the soccer ball night light all fall in an affordable price range. This makes them perfect for team gift exchanges, party favors, smaller birthday gifts, or stocking stuffers. It all depends on the person for whom you are buying!

Whether you’re shopping for a dedicated player who lives and breathes the beautiful game (like our son!), a supportive parent cheering from the sidelines, or simply someone who appreciates soccer, I hope this guide has sparked some inspiration for your next thoughtful gift!

Happy, happy gifting, and may your soccer person’s face light up just as much as yours does when you find their favorite perfect soccer themed presents!

gifts for soccer lovers

Do you have someone in your life who is a soccer lover? Yes? Same, same. When my son fell head-over-heels in love with soccer a few years ago, we all turned into soccer lovers. Since then, we go to many soccer games, watch many soccer games, and play many soccer games. It’s quite a joy to watch him grow as a player, and for us as a family to make our own memories and relationships with other soccer families. Because I’m constantly on the lookout for great, creative gifts for those in our soccer world, I thought I would share some great gifts for soccer lovers so you don’t have to do all the digging.

These ideas for gifts for soccer lovers are organized by type of gift for easy browsing. Enjoy!

Soccer Equipment

While “soccer equipment” isn’t exactly the most novel idea for a gift, I think it’s really helpful to know the many options that exist for training, and therefore, gifting. When I first became a soccer mom, I really didn’t know anything about soccer, and several years in, I’m still learning as my son gets older and progresses in his skill level.

Here are some great basics and also fun equipment pieces:

  • Pinnies (used these a ton when playing pickup soccer and also just for fun when my son wanted to take things seriously in the backyard)
  • Goals for the backyard (this set is great because it comes with other items like cones, but also with the scoring guide to help a player build accuracy with their shot)
  • Goalkeeper shirt
  • Goalie gloves
  • The Kickit — this is a fun, easy game which helps a player with their juggling skills
  • A rebound board — helps with passing and ball control
  • Soccer training mat — helps with ball control
  • Soccer ladder — my son uses this for his own agility training and to also train his little sister 😂

Custom Water Bottle

This was one of the first soccer gifts we gave my son, customized with his name & number. Honestly, it was great for the both of us since we are constantly using water bottles, and it has helped us to tell his Gatorade water bottle apart from everyone else’s!

Custom Soccer Ball

This is on my list to design for my son. It’s a custom soccer ball that can feature their name, number, etc., and a bunch of featured shots! I think he will lose his mind when he unwraps this.

Glow in the Dark Soccer Ball

Have you seen this? One of the soccer players brought this to practice one night since the kids like to play late into the night, and it starts to get darker earlier during the season. The glow in the dark soccer ball solved that issue! It was so fun to see the kids draw out of the last bits of summer as they ran up and down the field.

In The House Soccer Ball

The indoor soccer ball is genius! We were at our friend’s house one winter day and all the kids were able to play soccer in their refinished basement, with goal nets and all, because of this ball! It’s softer than a soccer ball, but still has impact. Perfect for those cold or rainy days when kids still want to play.

Dribble Up Soccer Ball

This is a fun gift for a dedicated soccer player who wants to improve their skills. It’s a smart ball that allows you to track your progress with various skills. Just so you’re aware, the ball itself really needs a corresponding app to make it useful, which you do have to pay a monthly subscription for. So, this is for a serious soccer player.

Gifts for Soccer Lovers: Merch & Goodies

Tickets to a Soccer Game

This is a go-to in our house. I swear way more of our budget goes to professional soccer games than it should! If MLS or the other big wig teams aren’t an option, consider treating to a college soccer match. You could buy merch from the college store, pack a bunch of treats, and make a day out of it!

Coaching Sessions

Coaching sessions can be expensive, so this could make a great gift. When I was looking for every possible avenue to fulfill my son’s soccer obsession during the soccer off-season, I paid a neighborhood kid who is really good at soccer to train my son. My husband and I also figured out how to get in touch with our local college and we also got a soccer player to train him! This was so great. My son was in awe and it developed into an awesome relationship for him. Maybe one of these would be a good option for you as well.

Replica Game Ball

There are many replica game balls that exist. I didn’t know this initially, but my husband and son caught on to this right away. If your soccer fan has a particular World Cup or Copa that they loved, a replica ball is an awesome display piece for their collection (or to start one!).

I love this floral Tottenham Hotspur ball and this 2025 Club World Cup soccer ball was a recent purchase in our home.

Flick Soccer

gifts for soccer player

My son received this cute game as a gift from Santa. It has really come in handy during car rides and on trips. It keeps his attention and others can play as well.

Stadium Map

gifts for messi lovers

You may already know that this custom stadium map was a gift received by my son this past Christmas. We’ve had a great time talking about the stadiums we’ve been to and those we want to visit. I never thought of stadiums as a place to check off a list, so this has helped me appreciate these ventures even more!

Merch from Favorite Team

There are so many cool ways to represent a favorite team now: pennants, flags, jerseys, sneakers, cups, balls, pins, scarfs, hats, stuffed animals, pencils, magnets, lights, etc. Visit the website of your gift recipient’s favorite team and you will find a multitude of goodies to choose from!

Foosball Table Game

A foosball table game is so fun, especially in the colder months. We got a lot use out of ours, and also used it as an extra activity option during my son’s soccer themed birthday party.

Soccer Themed Goodies

These items are great for a small gift or to bulk up another gift.

Custom Soccer Flag or Pennant

youth soccer gifts

A few years ago my son designed a flag for a neighborhood team that he and his friends created. It was the sweetest thing. He designed it in Canva and then I printed it out on hard stock paper. I then had a custom pennant designed for his room with the team name when I re-designed it. I was so excited to “unveil” it for him. These are both great gifts for a soccer kiddo or fan! The store who created our pennant is no longer available, but here’s a similar option and a custom flag designing option.

Framed Photos

For my son’s soccer themed bedroom, I made a frame and printed out a special memory from his team’s tournament weekend. It brings us such happy memories — the team is eating ice cream and acting as a silly as can be. Somehow after two days of soccer, these kids were still running around the ice store, playing soccer outside, and just generally goofing off. It warms me up every time I look at the photo.

Here are some beautiful burl frames, as well as gold frames with an antique look, that would be stunning in a space that you, or the receiver of the gift, may want to keep sophisticated. Frame a special soccer memory from a trip, a game, or camp.

Gifts for Soccer Lovers: Clothes & Accessories

Dainty Soccer Ball Bracelet

soccer fan gif

I love this bracelet so much! I gave them as gifts to my soccer mom friends at the end of last season. These would be great for just that, or for a younger athlete who enjoys delicate jewelry.

Soccer Ball Earrings

A soccer ball earring is such a sweet gift! Such an easy and stylish way to show team spirit, or support from the sidelines!

Soccer ball studs   I   Soccer ball clay hanging earrings   I   Resin soccer ball stud earrings

Custom Sweatshirt

glow in the dark soccer ball

There are so many fun custom sweatshirt options. I have this fun soccer mom sweatshirt that I use often during the season. Here is a cute “Game Day” sweatshirt that would be a great option for a soccer player, soccer partner, or soccer spectator!

Soccer Jersey

This one may seem obvious, but there are fun ways to play around with this. You could customize a jersey, or buy a favorite jersey as a gift. You can purchase one from the team’s website or Etsy, custom options are available on Etsy & Amazon. You could even make your own with a custom logo and iron on numbers and letters — I did this buy buying a youth size t-shirt from our local college and ironed on my son’s name & number.

Wrapping a Soccer Lover’s Gift

If you have a little extra time and energy, it’s fun to go the extra mile with wrapping. I always enjoy getting creative with wrapping presents when I think ahead to buy a few items in advance. My mom has always been an amazing gift giver and wrapper, which made us feel so special growing up. I like to do this for my kids or the people in my life when I’m able.

This Christmas I wrapped my son’s tickets to a Messi game in a lovely gift box, filled with green crinkle paper to mimic the soccer field, with little toy soccer balls floating around (which we reused for his birthday table and as extra balls in the foosball game). I hope it added to the experience for him!

Whether you’re shopping for a dedicated player, enthusiastic fan, or proud soccer parent, these gifts for soccer lovers offer something special for everyone in the soccer community! I like to think about it this way — the very best gifts for soccer lovers are those that show that we understand and support our soccer lover’s dedication to the “beautiful game”. I hope that with these thoughtful options, you’re sure to score big (ha!) with the ideal gift!

And, as always, please share any great finds that you love to gift the soccer-obsessed in your life!

how to style soccer jerseys

If you are someone (a soccer mom, perhaps?) who appreciates creativity and style, but often finds themselves in a soccer jersey, I see you. While a soccer jersey paired with a comfortable pair of jeans and sneakers (and maybe a cute ruffled sock) is just perfect, it can be fun to add a little more interest. Maybe some color, pattern, or a skirt (or all three?!)? Let’s check out some inspiration for getting creative with our soccer jerseys. Now, how to style soccer jerseys: soccer mom edition!

This outfit is simple enough to throw together, likely with similar options that we have in our closet. Loafers (Sambas or another pair of sneakers would dress this down a bit, but still look very stylish), and a simple mini or midi skirt. A denim skirt would pair nicely with anything, and a leopard skirt would do the same, but add even more interest.

If you like this look, Mexico’s jersey is red & green with a cool pattern. My daughter has this jersey and I love it every time she wear it.

Love this idea to use a plaid skirt — it adds a lovely pattern and screams fall / autumn here in the US, as we soccer moms know, is full-on soccer season. This outfit also features a collared button down under the jersey which is an idea I hadn’t thought of on my own. This adds a bit more warmth, while allowing for more color and pattern — I think there are horses on there — love that! Anthropologie usually has some form of a similar option. The jacket adds a beautiful pop of color. Here’s a similar jacket that’s hanging out in my cart until I start my fall shopping.

Also, I like how the solid colored jersey is paired with a patterned bottom. The print from the collared shirt and the plaid skirt is broken up with the solid jersey.

Here’s a nice solid green jersey option. Here’s the flip, with white being the primary color, with a bit of green interest.

This long skirt is a great option, whether denim or otherwise. This is the opposite of the outfit above — a patterned jersey and a solid bottom. Playing with patterns and solids (like this blue one or this green one) is in this way is a fun opportunity to get creative and playful!

An Argentina jersey would be a great way to recreate the look in this post!

Two things I’m buying this fall season are a longer denim skirt (midi probably), as well as a shorter denim skirt. Since both of these can be worn throughout every season and stand-in easily for denim (with the addition of tights depending on the season), I’m excited to add them to my rotation. Last year, the ones I had my eye on sold out too quickly. Do you have any suggestions for styles or fits that you like? I’m also eyeing this faux suede midi skirt from The Drop.

Okay… if you’re like me, you’ve wondered what pants go well with soccer jerseys — fortunately, we’ve got all these great examples to help us envision our look — from pants to shorts. Have fun with this! Go with your most comfortable pant for the time of year (jeans? corduroys? linen?) and pair with a jersey.

You can see from the styling above that while jeans work very well with jerseys, so does just about any other pant you have on hand. This allows for a lot of versatility when considering your day — if you’re wearing your kid’s jersey to their game in the morning, and have plans after, you can style the jersey up.

I have these leopard shorts from böhme which are similar to the ones above. I have found them to be true to size.

How to Style Soccer Jerseys With Accessories / Shoes & Socks

I can’t get enough of Sambas (and all the similar Adidas brand sneaks). Adidas sure knows how to bring the fun with many colors and styles, which often sell out way too quickly. While Sambas are the classic soccer sneaker with versatility that meets the needs and hues of every season, of course, any sneaker you enjoy would work here. These sweet socks also add such fun, and for a really reasonable price, which is helpful.

Sock options if you’re in the market for some new ones:

Samba & Gazelle options:

Tips for Styling Soccer Jerseys

  • Authenticity: With style, it’s all about being authentic to yourself. Maybe push yourself out of your comfort zone a bit (or don’t!) when considering how to style a soccer jersey, but maintain authenticity to what feels good to you. This means not comparing yourself to others on the sidelines — just do you.
  • Accessorize: as noted above, add in accessories just like you would any other outfit. Add jewelry, funky sunglasses, a scarf around your neck or hair, and/or cute socks and sneaks.
  • Comfort: This goes without saying. The older I get, the more I insist on being comfortable. You can feel good, look good, and still be comfortable. I ALWAYS consider the temperature and other factors of the day to ensure I will be, at the veryyyy least, mostly comfortable. I spent way too much time in my youth (maybe you too?) being uncomfortable to fit trends, etc. and I’m so appreciative of reaching a point where comfort is pretty much non-negotiable for me.
  • Jerseys with meaning: You know we are big Messi fans, so we rock our Messi gear often. But, we do have other loyalties based on where we live and where our family lives. It’s really fun to buy jerseys based on these personal connections, and easily become talking points with others, which is fun conversation starter.

FAQ: Styling Soccer Jerseys

What pants go well with a soccer jersey?

Literally any pant. I know this can be overwhelming for some people who appreciate guidelines, but, really, you can pair a jersey with any pant that’s seasonally appropriate and comfortable, and throw on a pair of sneakers or comfy shoes and go.

What age should you stop wearing jerseys?

While some individuals may wonder when the right time to throw in the soccer jersey is, I think most of us will agree that there is no time for this. You can and should wear a soccer jersey to cheer on your favorite team, or simply show your own style, for as long as you desire. Soccer jerseys are permanent fixtures in your wardrobe, as long as you would like them to be!

Should soccer jerseys be baggy?

Again, there’s no straight answer for this one. It depends on the look you’re going for. Some people may wear a super baggy jersey as a dress, while others just like the baggy look, with a small tuck in the front. I, personally, prefer a jersey that’s a bit more fitted which tucks into my pants.

Is it okay to wear football jerseys casually?

Yes, absolutely. Jerseys can be worn casually, for sport (obviously), and dressed up, which we’ve seen in this post. Who knew soccer jerseys could be so versatile?! Prior to really getting “into” soccer these last few years, I would have never considered adding a soccer jersey to my wardrobe. I love to have expanded in this way!

Do you tuck in a soccer jersey?

This one is entirely up to you. As I noted, I prefer to tuck mine in entirely, or at least a bit in the front. But, I think this entirely depends on your outfit. If your soccer jersey is on the baggier side and you’re not sure what to do, you can also consider tying it in the front or back. If there’s not enough fabric to tie it, use a hair tie to tie it up.

And that wraps it up — we’ve got some great soccer jersey outfit ideas! How do you like to style a jersey? We’d love to hear your ideas! Do you get super creative and funky with pattern mixing, or do you prefer to keep it more simple? Do tell!

sports mom bags

It’s soccer season and I’m passionate about a good tote for carrying all the things from car to sideline! And, while I like my clothes and bags to be very functional for this changing season, I also like them to be a bit stylish. I have aaa loootttt of tote bags (just bought two during our recent visit to Montreal and another while on vacation in Cape Charles), including a farmer’s market bag, various sized coolers, etc. This is in part because tote bags are cute and fun, while also super functional. Kind of like a cute dad cap, if you will.

It’s also in part because I have learned over the years, that various bags serve various purposes — the right tool for the job.

Whether a soccer mom, a swim mom, or a lacrosse mom, we need sports mom bags that make our responsibilities run smoothly!

1. The Lightweight Chic Sports Mom Bag

best bag for sports moms

For me, the ideal lightweight bag is my Sézane tote. I received this free in an order from Sézane, and I use it alllll the time. It’s very light weight, malleable, and fairly large, so I can fit a decent amount in there. Are you like me and you carry several bags, plus chairs, plus a picnic blanket, and a ball for the soccer sibling? Also, a scooter + helmet. 🤪 In this case, a lightweight bag is very helpful.

If you want this exact one, keep an eye out for when Sézane is including a free tote with their orders. The color you receive is a fun surprise. My friend was sent green, and obviously I received this lovely shade of blue.

You may already have a great lightweight tote on hand. If not, here are a few good striped options: large striped pink tote & a lovely tan striped canvas tote.

Also, this canvas “Sports Mom” bag is cute and fully on-the-nose.

2. The Sturdier Sports Mom Bag

Conversely, there are times when a structured, sturdier tote is much more helpful. It does a great job of wrangling and containing, as well as sitting upright, which is a benefit in the grass or when sitting on benches.

Here is my go-to cute sturdy tote:

What do you get a sports mom?

This was an Anthro find from a few years ago.

This Athleta option has great structure, comes in two colors, zippers, and also has pockets, which is ideal.

This Amazon find has amazing, box-like structure, and is quite large. Waterproof, zippered inside pocket, and two water bottle pockets on either side 👌🏾.

3. The Right Cooler Bag

A mini/medium cooler bag is very helpful to have on hand for cold snacks, cooling towels, ice pops, and beverages. Truly, I love having various sized coolers available. We have several that we’ve collected over the years (cloth, plastic hardshell, small, medium, large) and they’ve all come in handy for various purposes (travel, baby bottles, soccer games, picnics, etc.).

Love this bag for holding a few cold items and ice packs. It’s very totable and super cheerful. I received this bag as a gift a few years ago, so it’s no longer available. A similar option is linked below if you’re interested.

Here are a few small/medium options:

This Trader Joe’s cooler bag is so great. I use this not only for groceries, but for soccer excursions when I’m packing extra of everything for my son’s teammates and my daughter’s soccer sibling buddies. You can pick a version of this up at any Trader Joe’s stores (at least you could when I was last there!).

Here are a few larger cooler bag options, similar to the TJ’s one:

Business & Pleasure (love the scallop detail on this one)   I   Striped Cooler Tote

4. The Giant Sports Mom Bag

One of my friends who I met as a fellow soccer mom showed up to practice one day with a GIANT tote bag. You know how sometimes a huge bag is cumbersome and somehow everything gets lost, and then other times it’s exactly what you need? This one totally served its purpose — it had books, and balls, and snacks, and waters, and everything in between. It was genius!

Linking a similar one here (many color options). I wish I had taken a picture of hers at the time.

This sweet Mama Tote would also be a good option — it has SO MANY pockets!

5. The Grab & Go Car Sports Bag

sports tote bag

I use this Bon Appetit tote as our “playground bag”, which often lives in our car for spontaneous play as well. After school my son always plays some type of sport on the playground. This bag has been SO HANDY.

I’m the mom (hi, it’s me) with the bag complete with a soccer ball, youth football, football gloves, and a few other goodies. The kids come to me to grab the balls if they get out of school prior to my son. It’s so cute! It sounds silly, but once I pivoted to using the bag, it helped me from thinking through grabbing all these items from the house or car as I’m quickly wrapping up work and shifting into soccer mom mode.

I received this tote with a subscription to the magazine, though they have several cute, colorful options for purchase on their website: pear essential tote & garlic essentials tote. This one has been through a lot of action and every stitch is still in place.

Merch totes are fun because they are also an easy conversation point on the sidelines, especially if you’re looking to connect with other parents.

Tote Bag Tips:

Here are a few helpful tips for fellow sports moms and parents, from a soccer mom who has been there in every season, for several years:

  • Have a grab and go bag prepared (or several) that’s equipped with tissues, band aids, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, snacks (granola bar, fruit snacks, etc.), and a few small toys if you have younger kids to entertain. When I’m running around after school/work getting ready to head out for practice, I typically grab one of these bags and am always grateful to have this pre-packed (or left over from a previous practice complete with dead grass, if I’m being totally honest).
    • You could also have a smaller bag (or several) with these essential items that you move from bag-to-bag as needed. This is what I do with our sunscreen bag (see below). These are the ones we have — I also use them for travel.
  • Consider having an extra change of clothes for all kids on hand. I usually have one of those for each kid in the car, but sometimes throw extra undies in the bag as well.
  • Prepare a separate sunscreen bag (that’s what we call it), which is really a smaller bag for the pool/water play that can travel with us — I just moved this from bag to bag. Otherwise, just make sure you also have sunscreen at the ready.
mom sports bag
Our sunscreen bag
  • If your brain works like mine, it can be really helpful to have a list tucked away (taped to the back of a cabinet or tucked inside a drawer or the bag itself) that makes it easy to remember everything you want to bring. Between the snacks, the band-aids, the sunscreen, the inhalers, the water, my spritzy drink, hand sanitizer, my Invisalign goodies 🤪, etc. etc. — I appreciate not having to do the mental work to remember everything each time.
  • Beach bags double beautifully as sports bags
  • Cleaning trick: When I was in Montreal a few weeks ago, my sister was buying a tote and the shop owner told her to wash it in cold water and skip the dryer. I took this advice with my Sézane bag (above), after spraying the strawberry stains from the farmer’s market, and it worked perfectly!

I’m hoping at this point that you feel equipped to dig through some of your own totes, or maybe refresh your stash with the right fit for your current sports season.

In a few minutes we’re off to pickup soccer and it’s very hot outside. I have the large Trader Joe’s cooler prepped with my daughter’s bento box (necessary evening soccer snacks), large ice packs, the  frog togg cooling towels, ice cold water, and ice pops for the kiddos.

It’s going to be a fun summer soccer night! ☀️ ⚽️

Sometimes I get mentally drained by all the thinking that goes into packing and unpacking bags for various activities, and lengths of time out of the house, food containers, water bottles, and everything in between. I’m not sure about you, but I’ve learned that it helps me to have a list to refer to so I can take some of the thought out of the process. I’m hoping this will do just that for you as well.

My husband and I are often solo parenting in the evenings based on our work schedules or his coaching schedule. It seems like a similar situation for most families — if a two parent house, everyone’s split up based on varied activities / needs. For this reason, I like to be very prepared for the two hours we spend at the soccer field several times a week. That means trekking along various toys and activities for my daughter, including plenty of filling snacks to keep her belly full, as well as her brother’s when he is starving as he gets off the field. Also, adults need food too!

And, what I love about a soccer sibling (my daughter), is that they build friendships with other soccer siblings. So, she has her buddies that look forward to hanging together, and all of us as parents have an understanding that snacks are pretty much universal to share (for the most part). This means we all often pack extra for the sideline soccer club!

Accessible Ideas for Snacks for Soccer Games

Nutella, apples, granola (NYT recipe)

Nutella is such a treat. And this Eleven Madison Park granola recipe from the New York Times is amazing. I often throw my own random mix of granola together and throw it in the oven, but when I want to follow a recipe (it’s very simple), this is the one. Both my kids like it!

Sliced apples, cheese, chocolate chips, peanut butter, pretzels

This is not novel, but it is delicious. Grab a little to go container and throw in some apples or other fruit, sliced cheese or a string cheese, some chocolate chips / M&Ms, a dollop of peanut butter / sun butter / Nutella / almond butter, and toss in some mini pretzels or Splits (our personal favorites).

Pita chips, carrots/cucumbers/peppers, dip (tzatziki, hummus, white bean hummus), olives, stuffed grape leaves

Pretty self explanatory. Grab some crunchy pita chips from a bag or a mini pita that can be torn up. Slice some veggies, or throw in some baby carrots, a whole mini cucumber, and baby peppers. Add a dollop of dip to the side, a few olives, and a stuffed grape leaf if that’s your kid’s thing.

Warmed up chicken nuggets with dipping sauce, fruit/veggie or fruit bar/twist/strip/roll (so many variations!)

Chicken is a more substantial option, especially when paired with anything else — a cut up veggie or fruit rolls or strips, etc. I will often throw these in my daughter’s bento box, with dried cranberries, olives, and some other fun goodies. She loves to open her box and see what I’ve packed, and I am happy knowing she has a substantial snack / dinner while we’re out of the house for a while around dinnertime.

Side note: I’m assuming all children don’t like it when one compartment of a bento box is left empty? I love bento boxes, but scramble to fill the whole thing!

You may also enjoy:

Trail mix (homemade or otherwise) with a string cheese

While it’s easy to buy a bag of prepared trail mix at pretty much any store, it can be a little tricky given that the mix isn’t always right based on a child’s preferences. If you are able to grab your child’s favorite nut, seed, chocolate, and dried fruits, you can throw your own together. If not, prepared it is!

Tortilla chips & guacamole cups

Easy peasy. Throw some tortilla chips in a bag (or just grab the entire bag and throw it in your tote) and a guacamole cup.

Cheese & ham roll ups, edamame, yogurt pouch or cup

This is a go to in our house. My daughter likes just the ham and is obsessed with edamame — shelled is easy and the pods are fun! My son prefers the ham & cheese rolled up together and will not touch edamame, so it’s apple slices or strawberries for him.

Protein balls and/or granola bars, with a cheese stick and fruit

My children may possibly be walking Clif Kidz Zbars at this point. They never get sick of them, thankfully!, and both kids really enjoy them. When I have the time and the energy, I do love the idea of making granola bars or protein balls (I don’t need protein in them, but I feel like this is just what they’re called at this point?).

Granola bar recipes:

Protein ball recipes:

Muffin or loaf slice

Store bought obviously works here, while homemade is great too. There are so many great muffin recipes that prioritize a child’s palette.

Here are a few:

I also love that my son loves the pumpkin bread I make in the fall. So, during the fall soccer season I’ll often pack up a few slices for games and tournament days. It’s such a joy to unwrap those babies!

Sweet or savory skewers

Whether sweet or savory, if you’d like to add in an extra step, grab some skewers (long or cut in half), and thread some pieces of meat, veggies, and/or cubed cheese. Conversely, you could add pieces of strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, mango, honeydew.

Yogurt, fruit, granola

Another simple go-to that gets the job done. Our favorite fruits to eat with yogurt are super simple: blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. I also love the addition of bits of dried fruit from the granola. Yum!

Mini snack wrap

Any vehicle works here: a mini tortilla, mini nan, or pita. Add your child’s favorite sandwich goodies. In my case, it’s simple ham & cheese. You could also warm up a chicken tender (grilled or breaded), and put it in a snack wrap with cheddar cheese and some ranch dip, or whatever variation works.

Child charcuterie “board”

This option works great for a team snack idea or for tournament days when you’re hanging around for hours. Grab the size of to-go container you’d like to use (whether individually sized or large enough to feed several people), and add in rolled up meats (my kids enjoy ham, mortadella, chicken), cubed or sliced cheese, and a spreadable cheese (Boursin cheese is a favorite in my house) if you have it on hand. Add olives, nuts (depending on allergies, of course), dried fruit, hunks of chocolate, and crackers or sliced baguette. Goldfish, pretzels, protein balls, fruit snacks, hunks of granola bars, and other kid friendly snack are welcome here too! I guarantee this one will be a win!

Soccer snack add ons:

Chunks of chicken / meatballs / hardboiled egg

I’m not sure about your kids, but when my son is done with soccer practice (especially because we often stay late so he can play around with his friends for a bit), he is so ready to consume food. Having some meat or some form of protein and healthy fats in the snack helps a lot.

Dried or freeze dried fruit

This one is obvious and you’ve heard it a million times before, but I want to make sure the reminder is here. I keep my dried cranberries in an area that is not the snack cabinet, so I can forget about them. My daughter loves them, oddly enough, so I try to include them when I remember them. Next time you go to Trader Joe’s or Aldi’s, stock up on a few different options. The freeze dried bananas and mangos are SO SWEET. They’re delicious. While the traditional raisins are great, maybe your child would find it fun to try something new or an item they haven’t had in a while: dried cherries, blueberries, coconut, mango, pineapple, apricots, etc.

Something sweet or chocolatey

I don’t know about you, but I love some chocolate with my snack plate and my son is the same. It’s lovely to experience joy through food, and this is one simple way of doing just that! Add in some cookie bites, fruit snacks, M&Ms, etc. You’ll have one happy soccer player!

Simple Suggestions:

  • Sometimes I like to get ideas from my local store — if I see something in the prepared section, I make a mental note to prep something similar at home.
  • If it would be helpful, ask your kids for their own snack ideas — this helps them to think through their potential hunger level and cues, while also helping them to take responsibility in this area.
  • Have them choose a snack or two from the grocery store that they’re excited about. Novelty is so fun!
  • These kids work so hard. They go to school all day, have homework, and then also go to practice, listen to the coach, etc. I love to acknowledge their effort, while also making them feel taken care of with a filling snack they’ll enjoy.
  • If you need to feed a family, or need team snack ideas, make the snack for soccer games a bulk situation. Just take what’s listed here and arrange it in a large container. One of my friend’s brought this board (or something similar) to pickup soccer one night and it was such a great idea.

Helpful Containers for Soccer Snack Transport

First things first – if you have containers that already work, no need to buy more. These are simply suggestions if they make sense for your life, your wallet, and the availability of storage in your kitchen.

We have used these reusable snack bags for two years now. I think they are meant to be discarded after a certain amount of uses, but I hate to throw extra stuff into the environment if these are working just fine. They can be put in the dishwasher and the seals still work, so they’re staying put.

BUT, I do see great value in having a few varied size options of snack containers that seal and travel well, as my tote bags can only carry so much.

For your snack-toting consideration:
1. Snackle Box

This “snackle box” which allows you to move around and take out containers

2. Three Compartment Snack Container
team snack ideas

I like that this snack container has three compartments. Two works well, but I often want space to include one more thing. It’s right in the middle of a small snack container and a bento box!

3. Two compartment snack container
soccer treat bags

This stainless steel two compartment snack container is perfect for two snacks, or two dips, or a food item + dip!

4. Ello Duraglass Storage Containers

My preference is always glass for water and food, if possible. These Ello Duraglass containers are great because the silicone wrap works hard to ensure they won’t crack.

5. PackIt Freezable Snack Box

Okay, my mind is blown. Am I the only one who didn’t know these existed?! This freezable snack bag is essentially a mini cooler bag in which you can tuck in cheese sticks, yogurts, fruit, etc. I’m a weirdo and do enjoy having coolers of various sizes!

I certainly hope these suggestions have been helpful to you and make soccer season a bit easier. Do you have any “go to” easy snacks for soccer games? Or soccer snacks in general? If so, I’d love to hear them! We are a community of recommendations here.

Soccer mom (or parent), you got this! As the kids would say, “let’s goooooo!”

Thank you so much for being here!

where to stay in south beach miami

My husband and I just returned from the most wonderful long weekend in South Beach, Miami feeling fully rejuvenated and totally spoiled. Most of that has to do with where we stayed: W South Beach. If you, too, are looking for a lovely weekend away, maybe it will be a good option for you as well. Here are all the details!

We chose Miami because it was a quick plane ride for us, and we needed to capitalize on the three nights we were able to get away (many thanks to our parents for watching the kids!). While we originally wanted to travel out of the country (initially we were considering: Cartagena, Lisbon, and Mexico City) but given flight times, airport travel times, extra time to get through customs, and the consideration of potential delays, this wasn’t an ideal option. So, insert Miami! You may already know how much my husband loves Miami, so this is how we landed on South Beach — we wanted a tropical, luxurious feel, access to great food, with the opportunity to explore, or simply relax (hard for me!). And, when we were trying to decide where to stay in South Beach Miami, it was a no brainer. When we can swing it, we love to stay at a W Hotel.

Enter W South Beach (full disclosure — I am receiving no compensation — just offering my experience!). I find it so helpful to hear others’ personal experiences about their trips, so I’m hoping this will be equally helpful and informative for you.

Waterside Options

Okay, so I’m not a water person, but my husband is. It’s grown on me as an adult, but I would never choose a water destination if I was the only one involved in this decision. I share this because I also want you to know that despite this, I LOVED the pool at the W.

There is the main pool (“Wet”), and there is an adult pool, which is considerably smaller, but a nice option for individuals who want quiet time. While there were families at the W, I never found it cumbersome or an annoyance to be around the children. If you’ve never stayed at the W, it is geared towards adults, though there were definitely options for kids: the main pool (which is pretty shallow — I think it’s only a bit more than 4 ft in the deepest area), a tennis court, a pickleball court, beach access, a small turf area with some games, etc.

You can also enter the beach from the pool area — it’s just a few steps away. You receive two complimentary beach chairs and towels, both at the beach and at the pool. There’s a beautiful pedestrian pathway between the hotel and the beach.

We decided to stick with the pool both days and literally spent hours there. There are wonderful servers who take your order and bring your food right to your lounge chair. It’s such a treat! While I often feel uncomfortable being waited on in this way, I forced myself to soak it up, and just sit still. There is beautiful greenery (palm trees and those other trees that look like baby fiddle leaf fig leaves — can’t remember the name of them), that I really appreciated and enjoyed.

Tips For The Pool at W South Beach:

  • Check in with the pool cabana when you first arrive at the pool. There is great staff who will help you choose your seats, put your towels out for you, and help you move an umbrella for shade if needed. They also need your room # & your last name.
  • If you plan to stay at the pool for a while, you can hang onto a menu and peruse the drinks and food options. Both were consistently SO good. Our go-to cocktail was “Summer Baby” (pictured above).
  • You can ask for a pitcher of water and you should. Stay hydrated! There is also complimentary sunscreen at the pool cabana if you need it.
  • Random, but the bathrooms by the pool were really well kept. You know how pool bathrooms are usually so wet and gross (not the visual we all want right now 🤪) — these were NOT that. I was so impressed.
  • Our trip was in mid/late July. During that time of year, the beach loungers were pretty full by 1:30pm/2pm. FYI if you want to plan your day around this.
  • You can rent cabanas. They are pretty private, though, in my opinion, didn’t let enough natural light in.

Where to Stay in South Beach Miami: The Hotel Room

Friends, this is one of the South Beach Miami hotels with balcony! My husband was worried that our room wouldn’t have a large enough balcony or a broad enough view of the ocean. When reserving our room, we chose a “guest room with an ocean view, balcony” and it did not disappoint! Even my husband was happy (he was pretty convinced he would be let down).

Is it worth going to South Beach?

As you might imagine, at a 5 star hotel, there was a turn down service every evening, which was such a treat.

Amenities in the hotel room:

  • Turndown service (complete with a bedside chocolate)

  • A shower with four (maybe five? – I can’t remember and meant to take a picture!) shower heads!
  • Nespresso machine
  • Various lighting modes at the touch of a button (bright, dim, off, etc.)
  • Double bathroom sink with the toilet separated by a door
  • Spacious room (ours had a couch and two comfortable chairs, as well as two chairs on the balcony)
  • Slippers

I’m sure there are other aspects I’m forgetting, or didn’t use.

Food & Drink Options

There are several dining options at W South Beach. You can eat at The Grove (American cuisine) or Mr. Chow (Asian cuisine). There’s also in-room dining, or by the pool (which we already discussed). We ate at The Grove the night we arrived.

Where to Shop in South Beach Miami: Lincoln Road

And if you’re just here for the Messi / soccer mom content (😂), you know we had to find some soccer goodies to bring back for the kids.

Lincoln Road Shops

Lincoln Road is an outdoor shopping area in South Beach. We were looking for little gifts to bring home to the kids, so we walked to Lincoln Road, which is about a 20 minute walk. As usual, we went full Inter Miami / Messi / soccer mode and stopped in the Pelé Store, Adidas, Nike, and the PSG store. I did also get to shop at the Anthropologie there.

There was no shortage of soccer goodies! Adidas had some cool Messi displays that my kids would have lovedto see in person, and Pelé had great options, heavy on Inter Miami and Messi given that we were in Miami.

If you are looking for a shopping experience while in South Beach, Miami, Lincoln Road is likely a good fit. They had something for everyone, including a lot of food options.

______

While there are several 5 star hotels in Miami South Beach and many hotels on South Beach Miami strip, we repeated to ourselves many times on our morning walks, noting how happy we were with our choice. Staying at W South Beach truly felt like an oasis, with great service, and consistently delicious food and drink. For sure, this is one of the best hotels in South Beach Miami!

Have you stayed in South Beach, Miami? If so, did you have a favorite location? Please share! And, if there’s anything else I can cover about the hotel, please feel free to send a comment.
